Ten Game Recap

![]() | • Oct 2, 2025 • Last-Second Spark Snatches Victory for Republic Sacramento Republic FC (2) vs Orange County SC (1) Sacramento, CA - Sacramento Republic edged out Orange County SC 2–1 in a roller-coaster affair that locked in a playoff berth yet again. Dominik Wanner struck early in the 7th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Blake Willey’s initial effort to give the hosts an early lead. OCSC responded midway through the second half when Ethan Zubak calmly converted a penalty in the 52nd minute, leveling the score and shifting momentum. Both sides traded blows and chances, but neither could find a winner until the 87th minute, when Khori Bennett delivered a dagger. Jack Gurr picked out Bennett in the box, and he buried the finish to restore the lead. Sacramento held on amidst late pressure, with goalkeeper Danny Vitiello making timely saves to preserve the margin. The win isn’t just three points, it’s another confirmation of the Republic’s consistency as they punch their ticket to the postseason once more. Coach Neill Collins will surely rest easy tonight, though the jittery finish might keep his heart rate up until game’s end. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
![]() | • SAT SEP 27, 2025 • Flight Plan Disrupted in Monterey Sacramento Republic FC (0) @ Monterey Bay FC (1) Monterey, CA - Sacramento Republic FC’s road momentum came to a halt with a narrow 1–0 loss to Monterey Bay, as Adrian Rebollar delivered the game’s lone goal in the 71st minute. It was a match largely defined by tight midfield battles and limited space in the final third, with both teams trading early chances. Sacramento looked the more aggressive side in the first half, testing Monterey keeper Nico Campuzano with a flurry of crosses and a close-range effort from Russell Cicerone just before halftime. Campuzano's sharp reflexes preserved the deadlock until Rebollar capitalized on a defensive lapse midway through the second half. After conceding, Sacramento upped the tempo in search of an equalizer but found Monterey’s back line too compact to breach. The loss ends a solid road run and underscores the need for clinical finishing as the regular season winds down. With the playoff picture tightening, every match looms larger, and Sacramento will be aiming to right the ship quickly when they return home. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
![]() | • SAT SEP 20, 2025 • Republic Stays Clean, Keeps Momentum Rolling Sacramento Republic FC (2) @ Colorado Springs Switchbacks (0) Sacramento, CA - Sacramento Republic FC flipped the switch when it counted, notching a 2–0 win over Colorado Springs with a performance equal parts guts and guile. The spark came from substitute Lewis Jamieson, whose return from injury proved timely as he both scored the opener in the 67th minute and helped tee up the second in the 84th, setting up Russell Cicerone to bury the dagger with composure. Cicerone, on a heater, now boasts three goals in three straight matches. Defensively, it was as tidy as could be as the side nabbed its 11th clean sheet of the season, extending the club’s internal mark for shutouts held by Danny Vitiello. The Switchbacks tried to lean on possession early and pepper Sacramento with chances, but strong backline cohesion and timely interventions kept them off the scoreboard. In the balance of the match, Sacramento’s patience paid off, controlling transitions and waiting for the break in a tense, physical contest. With this result, the Republic not only extend a road-winning streak but also reinforce their momentum in the race. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
![]() | • SAT SEP 13, 2025 • Quails Drop Early Lead as Phoenix Snatches a Draw Sacramento Republic FC (2) vs Phoenix Rising (2) Sacramento, CA - Sacramento looked poised for a comfortable win after a dominant first half against Phoenix Rising. Russell Cicerone popped the opener in the 20th minute, slicing through the defense and slotting home with composure. Things got even better when Phoenix defender Noble Okello accidentally turned a dangerous cross from Ryan Spaulding into his own net in the 32nd minute, giving Republic a tidy 2-0 cushion going into halftime. But like many classic soccer comebacks, the second half flipped the script. Phoenix earned a penalty in the 59th minute which Rémi Cabral converted to pull one back, and seventeen minutes later Ihsan Sacko levelled, finishing off a precise cross from Hope Avayevu. To make matters worse for Sacramento, Khori Bennett saw red after picking up a second yellow in the 75th, leaving his team to try and hold on with ten men. In the end the final whistle blew on a 2-2 draw, leaving the hosts frustrated after surrendering a two-goal lead. Still, Sacramento’s unbeaten streak extends, but the question now is whether this is a warning shot or sign of fatigue with the playoff push looming. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
![]() | • SAT AUG 23, 2025 • Republic’s Undefeated Run Snapped in Gritty Road Defeat Sacramento Republic FC (0) @ El Paso Locomotive (1) El Paso, TX - Sacramento Republic FC finally hit a wall during their arduous three games in eight days road grind, as El Paso Locomotive FC managed to grind out a 1-0 win to end the Republic’s seven match undefeated streak, not with a razzle-dazzle goal but a lone first half strike by Gabriel Torres that proved enough. Across what felt like a war of attrition, goalkeeper Danny Vitiello stood tall with six saves, making the difference between a clean sheet and a rout. The match left bruises, with 38 fouls showing Sacramento matching El Paso’s physical resolve, not their effectiveness. Even into seven minutes of added time, Republic threw caution to the wind chasing an equalizer: a slick combination involving Cicerone, Wanner, and Parano drew only a breathless miss, and in the dying seconds, a Benitez header flicked back to Bennett was snuffed out by a sharp El Paso keeper. It is a bitter pill to swallow, but this outing leaves the Republic with plenty to chew on as their road slog trudges into Albuquerque next. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
![]() | • SAT AUG 16, 2025 • Three-Way Standoff Delivers Hollywood-Style Finish Sacramento Republic FC (3) vs Oakland Roots (3) Sacramento, CA - In what could only be described as a wild seesaw with boots instead of swings, Sacramento Republic FC and Oakland Roots squared off in a frenzied face off that ended all square, 3–3. Both sides traded blows like heavyweight contenders, each strike answered with counterpunches, keeping fans glued to their seats. One standout moment came courtesy of Russell Cicerone, who netted his 25th regular season goal for the club, joining an elite trio in Republic history and etching his name even deeper into fans’ memory. Sacramento’s resilience, matched by Oakland’s pluck, made for a duel that had everything: drama, grit, and redemption. By the final whistle, neither team emerged triumphant, but everyone left a winner, especially the supporters who witnessed a thriller of a game that felt more like a rom com than a regular league tilt. ![]() | • SAT AUG 9, 2025 • Midfield Magic Seals Republic’s Sixth Match Unbeaten Run Sacramento Republic FC (1) vs Monterey Bay FC (0) Sacramento, CA - Sacramento Republic FC continued its quiet march toward USL Championship respectability with a tidy 1-0 victory over regional adversaries Monterey Bay FC on the pitch. Despite the expected derby fire, the game did not devolve into chaos as Sacramento steadily asserted control, peppering the visitors with 23 shots, six on target, while Monterey Bay managed only five attempts, just one of which truly tested the keeper. The match-winner came from skipper Rodrigo López, who struck in the 36th minute, marking his first home goal since April 2024 and single-handedly keeping the Indomitable City’s unbeaten streak alive at six games. Monterey Bay fought back in the second half but could not conjure an equalizer despite their best efforts. Sacramento’s dominance was clear not only in the goal column but also in their overall pressure, generating corner after corner by a 10 to 3 margin, drawing fewer cautions, and dictating the tempo from start to finish. With this win in the bag, the Republic looks poised to keep its Western Conference climb rolling, and Rodrigo’s knack for breaking goal droughts is starting to feel like the quiet engine powering this run. ![]() | • SAT AUG 2, 2025 • Republic’s Road Redemption Seals Five-Game Run Sacramento Republic FC (3) @ San Antonio FC (1) San Antonio, TX - In a heated clash that saw Republic FC crack open their away game hoodoo, Sacramento finally delivered on the road with a polished 3-1 victory, extending their unbeaten run to five matches. The breakthrough came when four year captain Lee Desmond leapt up to nod in his first goal for the club, his 104th appearance, showing that persistence pays off in spades. San Antonio responded almost immediately as Diogo Pacheco, fresh off a crafty give and go with Jorge Hernandez, evened the score a minute later, keeping the hosts breathing. But Sacramento’s new spark, Khori Bennett, struck late in the match with his own inaugural goal, then Cristian Parano, ever the ex opponent thorn, sealed the deal in stoppage time with a finish against his former team. Sacramento’s balance between gritty physicality and timely offense made the difference, as they shrugged off Toyota Field’s hex and showed that a little resilience and a few fresh faces stepping up goes a long way toward turning fortunes around. ![]() | • SAT JUL 26, 2025 • Indomitable Red Keeps July Undefeated Sacramento Republic FC (1) @ Spokane Velocity FC (0) Spokane, WA - Republic FC edged past Spokane with a tidy 1‑0 triumph, delivering yet another clean sheet and sealing an undefeated July to boot. The lone goal came early, when Jack Gurr darted down the right, whipped in a beautiful looping cross, and young Michel Benítez unleashed a thumping header that whipped the net. Sacramento didn’t just stop there—they dominated the air and piled on chances. Spokane nearly equalized when Andre Lewis cracked a shot off the outside of the post, only to be denied again by a stunning rebound stop from Jared Mazzola. Sacramento’s aerial game kept buzzing post‑halftime—a corner had Russell Cicerone rattling the woodwork in the 55th minute, and late on, teenage sub Blake Willey nearly became the club’s second‑youngest scorer, his deflected blast kissing the side netting. Finally, Mazzola secured the slim lead with a heroic last‑ditch save on a 95th‑minute header, preserving the shutout and wrapping up a rugged, stylish finish to the month. ![]() | • SAT JUL 19, 2025 • Stalemate Symphony of Shutouts Sacramento Republic FC (0) vs Lexington FC (0) Sacramento, CA - Sacramento Republic FC clashed with Lexington SC in a tight, stubborn battle that ended in a 0-0 draw. The result marked Sacramento’s fourth straight clean sheet, an impressive run of defensive discipline that also managed to snap Lexington’s six-match scoring streak. The match tilted in Republic’s favor in terms of possession, and they even played with a one-man advantage for much of the night, but that edge never translated into the only number that matters. Their build-up play was confident, their pressure relentless, and yet the final pass and decisive strike stayed frustratingly absent. Lexington, meanwhile, was content to absorb and disrupt, turning every loose ball into a victory of its own. Goalkeepers on both ends had little to do but stay ready, which in itself told the story of a match that promised more than it delivered. Sacramento’s faithful will applaud the defensive toughness, but there is an unmistakable itch for sharper finishing, the kind that transforms dominance into points. If that spark does not ignite soon, the sound of patience may grow louder than the cheers. Photo: Courtesy of Sacramento Republic FC
